Dimitri Petrenko (Russian: Дмитрий Петренко) was a Soviet soldier assigned to the 150th Rifle Division of the 3rd Shock Army during World War II , and was the friend and subordinate of Viktor Reznov. After the war, Dimitri worked with Reznov on finding the Nazi scientist, Friedrich Steiner, and was killed by his gas by the traitorous Nikita Dragovich. Dimitri's death deeply affected Reznov, and would lead him on the path on getting his revenge on Dragovich, Lev Kravchenko and Steiner by using his ally CIA operative Alex Mason to kill them.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Dimitri Petrenko was born on August 1, 1923 in the Soviet Union to unnamed parents, and would later join the Red Army a year before the Second World War happened. Petrenko became a private, and was assigned to the 150th Rifle Division and the 3rd Shock Army before 3 million soldiers of the Third Reich successfully invaded Russia in June 1941 during Operation Barbarossa.
The Siege of Stalingrad[]
During the Battle of Stalingrad, Dimtri survived the Red Square massacre, and played dead while the Nazi soldiers came and shot survivors. While crawling through, he came across Viktor Reznov, who tells him he needs his help to kill General Heinrich Amsel, as he can't due to his losing his finger. Dimitri and Reznov journey through the area, and manage to kill a Nazi sniper from across a building. Afterward, Dimitri and Reznov meet up with Soviet soldiers including Sergeant Joseph Daletski, and provide sniper support when the others ambush the Nazis.
After giving support, Reznov and Dimtri move to assassinate Amsel, who is attempting to escape from the area. Dimtri succeeds in killing the general, and Reznov congratulates him on his marksmanship. The two are attacked by a squad of Nazi soldiers, who storm the building to kill them. Dimtri and Reznov escape from the building, jumping into the river upon escaping form the Wehrmacht soldiers.
The Battle of Seelow Heights[]
Three years after Stalingrad, Petrenko was promoted to the rank of Corporal after killing Amsel, but he and Rezonv didn't see each other again till the Battle of Seelow Heights when Pentrenko was captured and taken into a house by three Nazi soldiers. While the soldiers are conversing and searching Dimitri's fallen comrades, Petrenko attempts to reach for a rifle before attacked by a Nazi soldier. Before they execute him, a T-34 tank blows a hole into the rifle, and Reznov reunite with Dimitri. Petrenko also meets private Chernov, a new member of the army, who shows himself to be merciful against Reznov's brutal personality. After fighting against Nazi soldiers and German tanks, the group go on pushing into Berlin.
Push into Berlin[]
Upon their reunion, Reznov speaks a lot of Dimitri and often tells the other soldiers to follow him as an example, especially to Chernov who seems to be shocked by the vengeful violence of his comrades against the Wehrmacht soldiers. After blowing the German Panzer Tanks, King Tigers and German forces up that are guarding the last defensive line that was protecting Berlin in a T-34, Petrenko and Reznov joined the numerous Russian forces in clearing Berlin. During a skirmish in a Berlin subway, the tunnel that Petrenko, Reznov and Chernov are in is flooded by water, although the men survived.
To the Reichstag[]
After recovering, Reznov, Dimitri, and Chernov participates in storming the Reichstag, the seat of the German Parliament and final Nazi stronghold. However, at the entrance of the Reichstag, Chernov is incinerated by a flamethrower and falls to the ground coughing and writhing in pain, Reznov takes pity on him and takes his diary and reads it. Chernov's death forces another soldier to carry the flag, although he is killed as well during the final stages of the battle, forcing Dimitri to plant the Soviet flag.
However, when trying to raise the Soviet flag, a dying Schutzstaffel Trooper severely wounds Petrenko by shooting a near-fatal shot at him with a P-38. As the lone German collapses, Reznov charges forward with a machete and repeatedly stabs and slashes the German to death and throws his body from the Reichstag. Reznov cut the flag down and tells Dimitri that the honor is his. Dimitri raises the Soviet flag over the Reichstag as cries of "Ura!" are heard from the victorious Russians.
After the Reichstag[]
After the Reichstag, Dimitri was transported to a med station and feel in love with a Red Army nurse and the two have a child. He was also hailed a hero by the Soviet Union for defeating the Nazis, and was titled the "Hero of Berlin". but this was short life as Dimitri was Sergeant is appointed as Reznov executive officer and is was assigned to the Soviet Occupation Forces in Berlin, and was later assigned to "Unit 45" with Reznov, who was promoted to captain. The unit was under the command of General Nikita Dragovich, who Reznov tells his men not to trust since he left his men die at the Red Square massacre. Dragovich and his right hand, Lev Kravchenko, order the unit to capture Nazi scientist Friedrich Steiner and secure a shipment of a toxic nerve gas called Nova 6.

Betrayal[]
As the men secure Steiner, who takes them to the ship and speaks of how he created the nova gas. Wanting to see the gas' effect, Dragovich and Kravchenko betrayed Dimtri and his men, and used them as test subjects. Dimitri and a couple of men died a slow painful death from the gas, as Reznov saw his death.
Legacy[]
After being imprisoned in Vorkuta for destroying Nova-6 Reznov vowed to kill Dragovich, Kravchenko and Steiner in order to avenge Dimitri and stop them recreating Nova 6. 18 years later Reznov befriended fellow inmate Alex Mason, who'd been brainwashed to kill John F. Kennedy but thanks Reznov, he reprogrammed him to kill Dragovich, Kravchenko and Steiner instead. After Mason's escape from Vorkuta, which resulted in Reznov's death too, he pursued his targets and by 1968 successfully killed Dragovich and Steiner. Kravchenko however survived until 1986 where he was killed by Woods, finally avenging Dimitri. Pentrenko was survived by his girlfirend, child and grandchildren who served in the Loyalist under command of Sergeant Mikhail Kamarov.
